Signing Awareness

Children & young people with hearing disabilities who only use sign language, often have difficulties communicating with non-signers. Essex County Council supports these children by providing escorted transportation to and from school, but the volunteer escorts and drivers don’t always have an understanding of sign language. We therefore worked with the Council to produce an awareness DVD for escorts and drivers, that would highlight common words and phrases that young signers might use while being transported. The resultant DVD was interactive, engaging and simple to use - combining a live action re-enactment of a typical escorted bus journey, clear signing and graphics.
