About the Film

Rogue Trader is an educational comedy short film that uses humour to highlight the real-world issue of doorstep scams and financial manipulation. Directed and edited by Deadline Communications, the film combines light-hearted storytelling with an important public awareness message.

Set around a seemingly ordinary family meeting, Rogue Trader follows Gav as he becomes increasingly suspicious of Raymond, a persuasive “builder and odd-job man” who has embedded himself into his Aunt Janice’s life. As the situation unfolds, the comedy reveals how easily trust can be exploited and how difficult it can be to challenge a scam once it feels established.

By presenting a serious subject through accessible comedy, Rogue Trader is designed to educate audiences, encourage conversation and promote early intervention, making it suitable for public sector, community and awareness-led screenings.
